March is Youth Art Month. We dedicate the month to celebrating ALL fine arts. Dance, drama, music, and visual arts are all vital to learnings. Developing creative critical thinking, teamwork, depth of knowledge, and the power of expression are all woven through the fabric of the fine arts department. As visual artists, we display work at the county Board of Education. Check out this amazing work from our Five Forks artists.

6th grade artists are putting the finishing touches on their dynamic abstract circle paintings. This unit of study works with our STEAM project-based learning study called Project H2O. Students examined water samples under microscopes, learned about artist John Sabraw who uses polluted water from the Ohio River Valley to create art, and then explored tints and shades of color to develop rich contrasting images.
This week students will take their painting and create digital images to make a water conservation poster on the computers. Stay tuned for more pictures! We are heading into the busiest time of year with March Madness and STEAM night. I loaned my sign making skills to help the community and decorate some spaces!
The Brookwood Cluster schools hosted the first annual MakerFaire. A parent at Five Forks, Greg Mead, organizes the MakerFaire Atlanta festival and works with other surrounding cities. He inspired our school and cluster to share our wealth of STEAMy projects, clubs, and programs at our schools. The art club participated with recycled t-shirt bags, a group weaving with a hula hoop, binary code bracelets, and button making. The station was run by our phenomenal and creative students!
We used artist and mogul, Walt Disney, for inspiration for our first project second semester. We discussed our own creativity and if were to come to life what would it look like, what clothes would it wear, does it live somewhere real or imaginary. Check out these illustrations of students' figments of their imaginations where they explore different 2D media.
Students welcomed the first day of winter with ice sculptures! They used heated metal tools to scrap and carve into the surface. Taking inspiration from English abstract sculptor Henry Moore, we staked our ICE outside!
The art club kids were invited to our local Burger King to paint the windows with some holiday cheer! We went for complex radial design star motifs, so we could all shine bright this winter! Free breakfast and art is always a great way to start your Sunday!
6th grade students are working on a fashion unit related to STEAM. In science, students are learning about scientists predictions about the world reuniting as a super contient in 100 million years! In art we are designing the fashion of the future! Mr. George's class joining in the fashion fun with scissor safety, glueing skills, and object identification!
Brandon busted out some origami sculpture outside of class! Impressive!!! Students who explore art outside of the school makes my art heart happy!
