I have taught for 16 years and two months, of which 15 months were/are in a pandemic, four Title I schools while sharing my creative talents with over 10,000 students, seven principals, hundreds of co-workers, and it is time to transition to the next phase of my education journey! (That was one long sentence.) As I have dug through my physical and digital files, it has been a great walk down memory lane. Growing up, I worked in summer camps and taught children to swim as a lifeguard. Kids always seemed to like me and the water. In the infancy of my teaching career, my beliefs confirmed: my pheromones' attracted kids --and the ones who need the most love seem to have the strongest magnet pull to me. My goal in every room, hallway display, and community mural have been to create a safe space where all students feel confident exploring and appreciating art. My co-workers became my friends, partners, teammates, and biggest cheerleaders as I transitioned between schools. Leaving each school was a break-up. I found myself thinking, "it is not you; it is me." Saying good-byes are always hard. I believe you attracted people of shared beliefs. My current team at Peyton Forest, to the impressive list of music, physical education, Spanish, technology, and content-specific specialists, challenged me to collaborate to develop lessons that acted as pieces of advocacy for kids! Teachers Matter! And I am excited about my next phase as the Support Teacher for the Fine and Performing Arts department. Keep following my journey on Twitter: @sarah_erickson_
